The Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Cashew Industry Roadmap to tackle the loss of economic value caused by exporting over 85 percent of the country’s annual cashew production in raw form. The initiative aims to increase domestic processing capacity, boost non-oil export earnings, and create jobs. Government officials noted that while Nigeria produces up to 350,000 metric tonnes of raw cashew nuts annually, inadequate local processing has stifled growth. The roadmap seeks to address challenges such as poor infrastructure, limited financing, and ageing plantations. A new Nigerian Cashew Project Office will be established to coordinate efforts with development partners and industry stakeholders to improve competitiveness and support the national goal of a one trillion dollar economy.
