FAAN Commences N580 Billion Airside Infrastructure Overhaul

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), under the leadership of MD Olubunmi Kuku, has launched an extensive rehabilitation program to address decades of infrastructure decay across the country’s airports. The initiative focuses on safety-critical assets, including runways, taxiways, and airfield lighting, which have long suffered from deferred maintenance. Key milestones include the completed upgrades to Runway 18R/36L and Taxiway B at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. FAAN estimates a total requirement of N580 billion to comprehensively restore airside infrastructure nationwide, a move aimed at enhancing operational reliability, reducing flight delays, and achieving international aerodrome certification standards in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
