The African digital payments landscape is seeing a surge in stablecoin-based infrastructure to mitigate the high costs and delays associated with traditional cross-border settlements. Quidax, Nigeria’s first SEC-licensed digital assets exchange, has expanded its stablecoin infrastructure to over 21 countries. Simultaneously, Africa’s largest payments network, Onafriq, has partnered with Privy to develop regulated stablecoin-powered payment services for banks and fintechs. These initiatives aim to bypass traditional correspondent banking routes, aiming to reduce transaction costs and settlement times significantly across the continent.
