Issued via a circular from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the directive requires MDAs to appoint Data Protection Officers, register them with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), and conduct mandatory compliance audits. Crucially, the government has placed personal liability on Permanent Secretaries, Accounting Officers, and Chief Executive Officers for any failure to adhere to these data privacy regulations. This move aims to secure national data and improve public trust as the government ramps up its digital governance framework.
