The EFCC has frozen an Osun State Government statutory allocation account at First Bank, citing an investigation into the alleged fraudulent handling of 11 billion Naira in ecological and intervention funds. The commission claims the action was necessary to halt suspicious fund transfers detected since August 2. However, Governor Ademola Adeleke has challenged the legality of the move, which occurred just days before the August 15 governorship election. Legal experts note that while the EFCC can impose temporary stop orders, appellate court precedents generally limit these to 72 hours without judicial authorization. The Osun State government has initiated legal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Osogbo to contest the restriction.
