The Federal Government has secured a gas-supply agreement for the Ajaokuta Steel Company, aiming to revitalize the long-dormant facility. The deal provides up to 50 million standard cubic feet of gas daily to power the plant’s infrastructure, addressing a primary obstacle that previously deterred investors. Managing Director Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam stated that the government now prefers a 10-to-15-year build-operate-transfer model to revive operations. While some officials suggest the blast furnaces could be operational within months, industry experts remain skeptical, noting the significant capital required to reactivate the unproven site after decades of neglect.
