Europe remains the dominant destination for African international aviation, accounting for over 50% of scheduled international seat capacity in August 2026. According to data from OAG, Africa’s total scheduled airline seat capacity reached 27.3 million, an 8.4% year-on-year increase. While international routes to Europe and the Middle East continue to drive capacity, Nigeria emerged as the fastest-growing aviation market on the continent, with total capacity rising 37% year-on-year to 1.22 million seats. Cairo International Airport remains the busiest hub in Africa, with Lagos seeing significant growth.
