MTN Nigeria is marking 25 years of operations, growing from a limited cellular network to a digital powerhouse with 92.2 million subscribers. CEO Karl Toriola emphasized that the company’s evolution has been driven by significant investments in network infrastructure, shifting from basic voice services to 4G and 5G data-intensive applications. Despite achieving national scale, the operator faces ongoing challenges, including currency depreciation, high inflation, and the necessity of managing private energy solutions due to unreliable grid power. In the first half of 2026 alone, MTN Nigeria invested 621 billion naira in capital expenditure to enhance network resilience and expand broadband access. Looking ahead, the company aims to bridge the digital divide in rural areas while maintaining service quality against rising operational costs.
