The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has dissolved the board of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDC) and taken direct control of the utility due to a severe financial crisis. As of May 2026, the DisCo had accumulated N456.5 billion in market debt, including N415.5 billion owed to the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc. NERC cited poor operational performance, characterized by 71.88% technical and collection losses, and the failure of the core investor, ASI Engineering Limited, to meet financial and turnaround obligations since its 2024 takeover. A seven-member interim board chaired by Abdullahi Garba has been appointed, and a process to find a new core investor within 12 months has commenced.
