Nigeria Hits Record 1.5 Million Terabytes in Monthly Data Usage

Nigeria recorded an all-time high of 1.5 million terabytes in data consumption during May 2026, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission. The surge is driven by increased 4G and 5G adoption, which now accounts for nearly 60% of network connections, alongside a rising population of digital content creators. Active mobile internet subscriptions climbed to 157 million, with MTN and Airtel leading the market. Telecom operators are facing significant infrastructure pressure due to this growth, following a 2.5 trillion naira investment in network upgrades throughout 2025.
