ASUU-ESUT Commences Two-Week Warning Strike Over Unpaid Allowances

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced a two-week warning strike, effective August 14, 2026. The industrial action, announced by acting chairperson Andrew Apeh, follows the university’s failure to implement the 2025 FGN-ASUU renegotiated agreement. Lecturers are demanding the payment of long-standing arrears, including Earned Academic Allowances dating back to 2009. The union has suspended all academic activities, including lectures and examinations, and has threatened to sanction members who fail to comply. The leadership is calling on Governor Peter Mbah and university management to intervene to resolve the grievances.
