Nigeria’s pension remittances under the Contributory Pension Scheme fell 38% to N559.4 billion in Q1 2026, down from N903.7 billion in the final quarter of 2025. Despite the decline, the National Pension Commission (PenCom) termed the contributions healthy and reported net pension assets exceeding N29 trillion. During the period, PenCom recovered N1.18 billion from defaulting employers and issued over 12,000 pension clearance certificates. Meanwhile, the commission continues to advocate for an increase in statutory contribution rates, a move facing resistance from the private sector.
