The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) has issued a stern warning to businesses, including hotels, broadcasters, and digital platforms, to cease making music licensing payments to the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON). MCSN asserts that COSON is an illegal entity, noting that its Collective Management Organization license expired in 2018 and that various Federal High Court and Court of Appeal rulings have confirmed its lack of authority. MCSN remains the only authorized body to issue such licenses in Nigeria.
