Nigeria Broadband Speeds Surge 155 Percent on Fibre Expansion

Nigeria has recorded a 155% increase in median fixed broadband download speeds, rising from 13.50 Mbps in 2023 to 34.47 Mbps by the first half of 2026, according to a report by Ookla. This growth, the most consistent in West Africa, is driven by a threefold increase in Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) subscribers between late 2024 and June 2026. While infrastructure improvements continue, the nation remains below its 70% broadband penetration target, with industry stakeholders calling for better policy alignment as the government prepares to roll out an expansive 90,000-kilometre fibre-optic network project.
