Aviation Union Disputes Spark Concerns Among International Lessors and Creditors

International aviation lessors and financiers are expressing concern over the stability of the Nigerian aviation market following recent union-led picketing of Air Peace operations. The labor dispute, driven by disputes over unionization and outstanding ticket sales charges, caused the cancellation of over 70 flights and significant financial losses. Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has intervened, mandating that aviation agencies work with airlines to finalize realistic debt repayment schedules within one week. Meanwhile, creditors have indicated that they may review ongoing aircraft acquisition negotiations with Nigerian carriers due to the perceived operational risks.
