Federal Monthly Allocations Surge Past N2 Trillion on Economic Reforms

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has announced that federal monthly allocations to states have surged to over N2 trillion, up from an average of N300 billion in previous administrations. Speaking at the 2026 National Council on Finance and Economic Development retreat in Owerri, Oyedele credited this fiscal expansion to the government’s economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification. While noting that the increased revenue has eliminated salary payment struggles for states, he warned that shared revenue alone cannot ensure prosperity. He urged state governments to prioritize internally generated revenue, local productivity, and strategic infrastructure investment to achieve sustainable economic resilience.
