The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the National Digital Cloud Policy, a strategic framework aimed at transforming the country into a regional hub for cloud infrastructure and digital services. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the initiative targets $750 million in private investment over the next 24 months. The policy focuses on four key pillars: investment attraction, regional export, government cloud transformation, and digital sovereignty. To accelerate growth, the government plans to leverage its collective purchasing power to create predictable demand for cloud services, effectively acting as an anchor investor for infrastructure providers. The initiative will be overseen by a committee chaired by the Minister, with regulatory and operational roles assigned to the National Information Technology Development Agency and Galaxy Backbone Limited, respectively.
