The United States has officially lifted a 12-year security restriction known as the Condition of Entry imposed on Nigerian vessels arriving at US ports. First introduced in 2014 due to concerns over compliance with international maritime security standards, the restriction required vessels that had recently called at Nigerian ports to undergo enhanced security measures. The removal of this barrier, announced by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, is expected to lower operational costs, improve vessel turnaround times, and bolster the global competitiveness of Nigerian ports. The development follows sustained efforts by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency to strengthen security and ensure full adherence to the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code.
