Nigeria Ranks Second in Africa for Total Road Network Coverage

Nigeria holds the second-largest road network in Africa, with a total coverage of 195,000 kilometers, according to 2026 data from Global Firepower. The country ranks behind South Africa, which leads the continent with 750,000 kilometers of road infrastructure. This network is essential for connecting major commercial hubs, ports, and rural agricultural communities, serving as the primary logistics backbone for the country’s domestic market and cross-border trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area. Ethiopia, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo follow in the rankings as major contributors to regional transport infrastructure.
