The Federal Government has installed 668,000 electricity meters under the $500 million World Bank-funded Distribution Sector Recovery Programme, reaching 60% of the first phase’s delivery target. Bureau of Public Enterprises Director-General Ayodeji Gbeleyi announced the milestone during a meeting of the National Council on Privatisation. Additionally, 17 states have now established independent electricity regulatory commissions, furthering the decentralisation mandated by the 2024 Electricity Act. The government is also coordinating with stakeholders to refine the Act’s implementation.
