Nigerian fintech leaders are signaling a fundamental shift in the industry’s focus, moving away from rapid, growth-at-all-costs strategies toward building resilient, institutional-grade financial infrastructure. Michael Adesola, CEO of Belema Fintech, emphasized that the next phase of the sector’s evolution must prioritize transaction reliability and system resilience to maintain consumer trust. Similarly, Babatunde Akin-Moses, founder of Sycamore, noted that many fintechs are now seeking banking or holding company status to gain greater control over their value chains, reduce dependency on third-party providers, and navigate complex risks like liquidity and regulation. Both leaders agree that success will no longer be measured by user acquisition alone, but by a company’s ability to build sustainable, infrastructure-backed financial businesses.
