Edo State has formally transitioned the regulatory oversight of its intrastate electricity market from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to the newly established Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ESERC). This move, following the Electricity Act amendment, empowers the state to develop independent policies to attract private investment and improve power supply. State Commissioner for Energy, Paul Usenbo, noted that while this regulatory shift is complete, the broader restructuring of the state’s electricity distribution assets and liabilities remains an ongoing process. ESERC aims to create a more predictable operating environment to support industrial growth and consumer needs.
