The Federal Government has unveiled plans to construct a high-speed rail line connecting Lagos to Maiduguri, with projected train speeds of 360 kilometres per hour. Funsho Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transportation, announced the project as part of a national strategy to improve regional connectivity and reduce dependence on road travel. In addition to the rail expansion, the government is establishing a Smart National Transport Data Bank and introducing stricter regulatory standards for commercial road transport operators, including the standardization of motor parks and enhanced licensing requirements.
