Nigeria Private Sector Credit Hits N83.43 Trillion as Government Borrowing Declines

Credit to Nigeria’s private sector reached N83.43 trillion in July 2026, marking a N2.84 trillion increase from the N80.59 trillion recorded in April. According to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) data, this represents a 3.52% expansion over the three-month period, despite the apex bank’s sustained high-interest-rate environment. Notably, while private sector lending grew, net domestic credit fell by 4.82% to N117.35 trillion in July, driven by a reduction in credit extended to the government.
