Nineteen states have now domesticated the Model Taxes and Levies Act, a key step in the Federal Government’s plan to harmonise tax administration and reduce the number of tax and levy heads to nine. Olusegun Philip Adesokan, Executive Secretary of the Joint Revenue Board, confirmed the framework aims to eliminate multiple taxation, prohibit cash collections, and ban illegal roadside levies to reduce the cost of doing business. Meanwhile, Kaduna State reported significant growth in internally generated revenue, attributed to the digitalisation of its tax portal and a focus on high-yield taxpayers.
