Global ride-hailing giant Uber has officially announced the cessation of its operations in Nigeria and Uganda, effective September 2, 2026. This move marks the latest stage in the company’s regional restructuring, following its exits from Cote d’Ivoire in 2025 and Tanzania earlier this year. The company cited evolving business priorities and investment focus as the primary drivers for the withdrawal. The Nigerian market has faced significant headwinds, including rising fuel costs, currency depreciation, and stiff competition, which have strained the unit economics of ride-hailing platforms. Uber will continue to maintain its footprint in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt, and Morocco.
