Nigerian startups dominated the African funding landscape in August 2026, securing $364.1 million across 20 deals. This accounted for 83.7% of the $435.2 million raised by African startups during the month. The surge in total capital was primarily driven by major transactions, including a $250 million Series C round for Moove, a $50 million equity injection for Jumia, and a $40 million round for Yellow Card. While total deal volume across the continent declined compared to previous months, the concentration of capital into large-scale deals rose significantly, with the top 10 African funding rounds accounting for over 98% of all capital raised. Logistics and transport emerged as the leading sector by value, capturing over 60% of total disclosed funding.
