Gen Z Survey Shows Purchasing Power Decline Since 2024

A recent BusinessDay survey of Generation Z Nigerians reveals that the purchasing power of fixed monthly salaries has significantly declined since 2024. While headline inflation has moderated to 15.39 percent as of August 2026, respondents report that high cumulative prices continue to outpace wage growth. Consequently, 60 percent of those polled are cutting back on savings, while others are sacrificing education, healthcare, and essential services to cope with the rising cost of living.
