FG Settles N758bn Inherited Pension Liabilities

The Federal Government has successfully cleared pension liabilities inherited since 2007, paying out N758 billion to over 957,000 beneficiaries. PenCom Director-General Omolola Oloworaran announced the settlement, noting it fulfills long-standing obligations across previous administrations. As part of ongoing pension reforms under President Bola Tinubu, the Commission has also introduced a ‘Zero Waiting Time’ policy, cutting benefit processing from 21 months to 48 hours. Additionally, accrued rights for federal employees retiring through 2029 have been credited to their Retirement Savings Accounts, while monthly disbursements for 241,000 retirees have increased under the ‘Pension Boost 1.0’ initiative.
