The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced full-scale operational execution for the 2027 general elections. Chairman Joash Ojo Amupitan announced that the commission has acquired 57,000 additional Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, which have undergone extensive hardening and calibration to ensure integrity. Furthermore, INEC is establishing a dedicated Artificial Intelligence division to bolster result verification, combat disinformation, and protect public portals against cyber threats. The commission is coordinating with security and financial agencies, including the EFCC and NFIU, to monitor campaign spending and ensure the security of materials ahead of the polls scheduled for January and February 2027.
