Nigeria Hits 1 Million Domestic Flight Seats, Infrastructure Strain Intensifies

Nigeria’s scheduled domestic flight capacity reached 1 million seats in October 2026, marking a 54.6% year-on-year increase. This growth is the fastest among Africa’s major domestic aviation markets, positioning Nigeria as the second-largest domestic aviation market on the continent, trailing only South Africa. However, this rapid expansion is intensifying pressure on existing airport infrastructure, leading to increased congestion and frequent flight delays. Industry stakeholders, including Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, are now advocating for coordinated slot management systems to mitigate operational bottlenecks at major terminals.
