President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government will prioritise gas supply and reliable power for industrial clusters to lower production costs and revitalise the manufacturing sector. Speaking at the 54th Annual General Meeting of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, the President outlined a new industrial strategy aimed at increasing the manufacturing sector’s contribution to GDP to between 20 and 25 percent by 2030.
The strategy focuses on four key pillars: providing competitive energy for factories, unlocking long-term patient capital through the Bank of Industry, enforcing the "Nigeria First" policy to prioritise locally-made goods in public procurement, and expanding export market access under the African Continental Free Trade Area. While acknowledging that manufacturing growth remains under pressure, the government stated it is establishing an Industrial Revolution Work Group to monitor production metrics and ensure accountability. In response, MAN President Francis Meshioye highlighted the need for consistent implementation, calling for urgent action on electricity pricing, foreign exchange access, and the elimination of multiple taxation to sustain sector recovery.
