Vice President Kashim Shettima has signaled that the upcoming public listing of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) could trigger a significant surge in trading activity on the Nigerian Exchange. Speaking at the fifth anniversary of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Shettima suggested the listing could overwhelm the local bourse, similar to the market impact seen with recent high-profile listings. While NNPC leadership noted that no fixed date for an IPO has been set, the company is actively preparing for the transition. The Vice President also highlighted the government’s ongoing oil sector reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act, aimed at attracting long-term hydrocarbon investment and improving operational transparency.
