Experts advocate for directed bank lending to drive industrial growth

Financial experts are calling for targeted policy intervention to compel Nigerian banks to prioritise lending to productive sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and construction. During a recent discussion, industry leaders argued that while monetary policy reforms are progressing, they remain insufficient without deliberate efforts to channel credit into labour-intensive businesses capable of driving job creation and industrial growth. The experts highlighted that structural challenges, particularly the high cost and instability of electricity, continue to severely hamper business operations and limit the impact of current financial reforms. Consequently, they urged the government to align fiscal policies with private sector incentives to ensure economic adjustments translate into tangible benefits for the broader population.
