Torrential Rains Trigger Widespread Flooding Across Nigeria

Persistent torrential rainfall across Nigeria has triggered severe flash flooding in 27 states, displacing residents, destroying homes, and disrupting commerce. Hardest-hit areas include Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, and Plateau, where floodwaters have submerged major roads and damaged residential property. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) warned that the intense rainfall, coupled with poor urban planning and blocked drainage systems, has exacerbated the crisis. Local governments are currently mobilizing emergency services and construction firms to drain flood-affected areas, while officials urge citizens to maintain clean drainage channels and monitor weather forecasts to minimize further damage and health risks from waterborne diseases.
