NLC Rejects N70,000 Minimum Wage, Demands Living Wage Renegotiation

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has officially rejected the current N70,000 national minimum wage, labeling it a poverty wage insufficient to meet rising living costs. NLC President Joe Ajaero stated that organized labour is preparing for a new round of negotiations to push for a living wage that reflects economic realities. The NLC is calling on the Federal Government to pass long-delayed labour bills to strengthen workers’ rights and has signaled a shift in strategy to ensure more effective bargaining power ahead of the 2027 political cycle.
