The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) is advocating for the creation of an integrated West African fuel market. Speaking at the West Africa Refined Fuel Market Conference in Abuja, NMDPRA Chief Executive Rabiu Umar highlighted that regional supply chains are being transformed by the Dangote Refinery. The initiative aims to shift the continent from a global price-taker to a credible center for petroleum pricing, trading, and value creation. Government officials, including Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Heineken Lokpobiri, urged investors to capitalize on regional refining opportunities to bolster energy security. Meanwhile, the NMDPRA has proposed new anti-competitive regulations to ensure transparent pricing and market competition within Nigeria’s midstream and downstream sectors.
