Nigeria Exports to China Jump 80% on Zero-Tariff Policy

Nigeria’s exports to China rose by 80% to $2.3 billion in the first half of 2026, largely attributed to China’s zero-tariff policy on African goods implemented on May 1. Chinese Ambassador Yu Dunhai confirmed that while this shift boosted Nigerian exports, the nation’s trade deficit with China persists, as total bilateral trade reached $18 billion during the same period. Imports from China, consisting primarily of manufactured and industrial equipment, continue to significantly outpace Nigeria’s exports, which remain concentrated in primary commodities.
