Nigeria’s economy is projected to grow by 4.5 percent in the second quarter of 2026, marking the fastest Q2 expansion in five years. According to a model-based forecast, the growth is underpinned by a recovery in crude oil production, which reached 1.56 million barrels per day in June, alongside persistent strength in the non-oil sector. Key drivers include telecommunications, finance, and construction, which have helped maintain a steady upward growth trajectory since 2023. While the projected growth signals a recovery from post-reform adjustment shocks, analysts note that the challenge remains to ensure this expansion reaches labor-intensive sectors like agriculture and manufacturing to improve broader living standards. The official figures are expected to be released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
