Persistent Budget Reporting Delays Raise Fiscal Transparency Concerns

A new analysis by CFG Advisory reveals that the Nigerian federal government has consistently breached statutory deadlines for quarterly budget performance reports, in violation of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007. Since 2018, no report has met the mandated 30-day publication window, with some delays stretching over 400 days. Analysts warn that these persistent lapses in transparency, combined with delayed economic and debt data, hinder effective fiscal assessment and investor confidence amid rising budget deficits and debt-servicing burdens. CFG Advisory has threatened legal action if the government fails to improve compliance.
