Nigeria Power Sector Contracts for Second Consecutive Quarter

Nigeria’s electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply sector contracted by 10.63% in the second quarter of 2026, marking its second consecutive quarter of decline according to the National Bureau of Statistics. While this reflects a slight improvement from the 15.30% contraction in the first quarter, it highlights persistent structural challenges in the power value chain, including generation, transmission, and gas supply constraints. This weakness contrasts with the broader Nigerian economy, which recorded a 4.43% growth in the same period.
