United Nigeria Airlines Chief Commercial Officer, Adedayo Olawuyi, has called on the Federal Government to reduce aviation taxes and charges to lower ticket prices. Speaking at the AeroWest conference in Lagos, Olawuyi highlighted that high costs in foreign exchange, jet fuel, financing, and maintenance are threatening the sustainability of domestic airlines. Data indicates that taxes, fees, and levies can account for up to 35% of airline revenues, while jet fuel prices have surged significantly in 2026. Experts emphasize that the current high-cost environment, exacerbated by a reliance on international benchmarks for fuel and capital-intensive pilot training, is stifling regional connectivity and passenger accessibility.
