The Federal High Court in Lagos has extended a restraining order against the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and a court-appointed receiver regarding Universal Insurance Plc. The company is challenging the revocation of its operating licence, which occurred after it failed to meet the July 31, 2026, minimum capital requirement deadline. While the substantive hearing was adjourned to September 16, 2026, due to late filings, the existing court order prevents further action on the licence cancellation and receivership process until the matter is resolved. Universal Insurance maintains it is pursuing legal avenues to protect shareholder and policyholder interests.
