This follows a devastating 2023 outbreak that decimated production, causing output to plummet from over 750,000 metric tonnes in 2022 to roughly 159,600 tonnes in 2024. The recurrence of the disease, which causes rhizome rot and wilting, has further driven local production costs significantly above international market prices.
