FRSC and Stakeholders Launch National Campaign to End Vehicle Overloading

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and industry stakeholders have launched a national campaign to eradicate vehicle overloading in Nigeria. During the National Breakfast Policy Dialogue in Abuja, participants signed the Abuja Declaration 2026, committing to a coordinated approach to address the dangers overloading poses to road safety, national infrastructure, and logistics efficiency.

Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Dangote Group and the government, urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to issue a formal national directive against overloading. The initiative emphasizes shifting liability beyond the driver to include cargo owners, shippers, and fleet operators. The FRSC plans to implement this through enhanced technology, improved weighing infrastructure, and intelligence-led enforcement to ensure safer transportation and protect economic assets.
