$110 Critical Minerals Price Floor Could Drive Investment in Nigerian Mining Sector

Bala Wunti, CEO of the World Energy Council Nigeria, says a proposed US price floor of $110 per kilogram for critical minerals could significantly boost investment in Africa’s mining sector. Speaking at the 2026 Concordia Annual Summit, Wunti argued that this price stability provides the commercial certainty necessary to convert Nigeria’s geological potential into bankable, investable projects. He highlighted the newly established Nigerian Solid Minerals Company as a key vehicle for attracting capital by delivering projects with JORC-compliant data and clear commercial viability. According to Wunti, while private capital is essential for development, government intervention remains necessary to mitigate risks such as infrastructure deficits and regulatory uncertainty.
