Nigerian Startup Funding Cools to $11.3 Million in September

Nigeria’s startup ecosystem recorded $11.3 million in total funding for September 2026, marking a 97% decline from the $364.1 million raised in August. This significant drop is largely attributed to the absence of the mega-deals that characterized the previous month.

Despite the reduced capital volume, nine startups secured investment in September, compared to seven in the same period last year. Debt financing emerged as a dominant trend, accounting for over 50% of the month’s total, with Nomba and Drive45 leading the pack by securing $3 million each. Other notable funding rounds included ChipMango, which raised $2.1 million across two transactions. Analysts suggest the shift reflects a more selective investment environment, although the broader distribution of capital across fintech, logistics, deeptech, and agriculture indicates sustained confidence in Nigeria’s early-stage innovation landscape.
